Abstrak

Fish drying is a crucial post-harvest process for coastal small and medium enterprises (SMEs), traditionally relying on direct sunlight which is highly dependent on weather conditions. This study aims to design and evaluate a solar-powered fish dryer to improve drying efficiency and product quality. The dryer was constructed using a parabolic solar collector and insulated drying chamber, tested with 20 kg of anchovies under three different solar radiation conditions. Parameters measured included drying time, moisture reduction, and final product quality. Results show that the solar dryer reduced drying time by 40% compared to traditional sun drying, achieving final moisture content of 12% within 6 hours under optimal radiation. Product quality was improved with more uniform drying and reduced contamination risk. The findings suggest that solar-powered fish dryers are a feasible and sustainable solution for coastal SMEs, enhancing productivity and supporting renewable energy utilization.
