Traditional sun drying methods are highly dependent on weather conditions, leading to inconsistent results and contamination risks. This study aims to design and evaluate a solar-powered coffee dryer to improve drying efficiency and product quality for small-scale enterprises. The dryer was constructed using a parabolic solar collector and insulated drying chamber, tested with 10 kg of coffee beans under three different solar radiation conditions. Parameters measured included drying time, moisture reduction, and final product quality. Results show that the solar dryer reduced drying time by 35% compared to traditional sun drying, achieving final moisture content of 12% within 7 hours under optimal radiation. Product quality was improved with more uniform drying and reduced contamination risk. The findings suggest that solar-powered coffee dryers are a feasible and sustainable solution for SMEs, enhancing productivity and supporting renewable energy utilization
2026-09-14T00:00:00+00:00 Hak Cipta (c) 2026 Jurnal Teknik Mesin https://ejournal.polraf.ac.id/index.php/JTM/article/view/1507 Analisis Efisiensi Termal pada Mesin Penggorengan Vakum dengan Variasi Material Tabung 2026-09-14T09:19:17+00:00 Dadi Komara komaradadi44@gmail.com
Vacuum frying technology has been widely adopted by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to produce high-quality fried products with reduced oil absorption and preserved nutritional value. However, the thermal efficiency of the frying chamber is strongly influenced by the material of the vessel wall, which affects heat transfer, energy consumption, and product quality. This study analyzes the thermal performance of a vacuum frying machine using three different chamber materials: stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. Experiments were conducted with 10 kg of jackfruit slices under constant vacuum pressure and oil temperature. Parameters measured included heating rate, oil temperature stability, energy consumption, and product quality. Results show that aluminum provided the fastest heating rate but consumed more energy, stainless steel offered balanced performance with good stability, while carbon steel showed slower heating but higher energy efficiency. The findings suggest that stainless steel is the most suitable material for SMEs, offering a compromise between efficiency, durability, and product quality.
2026-09-14T00:00:00+00:00 Hak Cipta (c) 2026 Jurnal Teknik Mesin https://ejournal.polraf.ac.id/index.php/JTM/article/view/1508 Rancang Bangun Mesin Pencetak Briket Biomassa Berbasis Motor Listrik Hemat Energi 2026-09-14T09:25:03+00:00 Wahyudi wahyuuudilagii@gmail.com Mirliani mirlianimir22@gmail.com
Biomass briquettes are an alternative renewable energy source that can reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support sustainable energy for small-scale enterprises. This study focuses on the design and performance analysis of a biomass briquette machine powered by an energy-efficient electric motor. The machine was tested using rice husk and sawdust as raw materials, with a capacity of 10 kg per batch. Parameters measured included production rate, motor power consumption, briquette density, and combustion quality. Results show that the machine achieved a production rate of 8 kg/hour, consumed only 150W of electricity, and produced briquettes with an average density of 1.2 g/cm³. The briquettes demonstrated stable combustion with low smoke emission. This innovation highlights the potential of appropriate technology to support SMEs in renewable energy utilization and waste management.
2026-09-14T00:00:00+00:00 Hak Cipta (c) 2026 Jurnal Teknik Mesin https://ejournal.polraf.ac.id/index.php/JTM/article/view/1509 Pengembangan Mesin Pencacah Plastik Skala Rumah Tangga dengan Analisis Sifat Kimia Polimer untuk mendukung Program Daur Ulang 2026-09-14T09:32:46+00:00 Deviya Aprilman deviyaaaaaaprilman@gmail.com Silvia Syeptiani silviasilvia111@gmail.com
Plastic waste management has become a critical issue in household and community environments. This study focuses on the development of a household-scale plastic shredding machine integrated with chemical analysis of polymer properties to support recycling programs. The machine was designed to shred polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) into uniform flakes. Parameters measured included shredding capacity, motor energy consumption, particle size distribution, and polymer thermal stability. Results show that the machine achieved a shredding capacity of 5 kg/hour with an average energy consumption of 120W. Chemical analysis revealed that PE and PP maintained thermal stability after shredding, while PET showed slight degradation. The integration of mechanical and chemical approaches highlights the importance of appropriate technology in supporting sustainable recycling at the household level.
2026-09-14T00:00:00+00:00 Hak Cipta (c) 2026 Jurnal Teknik Mesin https://ejournal.polraf.ac.id/index.php/JTM/article/view/1510 Desain Alat Pengupas Kulit Kopi Semi-Automatis Berbasis Mekanisme Roda Gigi 2026-09-14T09:36:57+00:00 Hamsapari hamsaaapaaariii44@gmail.com
Coffee is one of Indonesia’s leading agricultural commodities, yet post-harvest processing particularly the peeling of coffee husks remains largely manual and inefficient. This study aims to design and analyze a semi-automatic coffee husk peeler using a gear mechanism to improve productivity and reduce physical labor. The machine was tested using 10 kg of Arabica coffee beans with three gear ratio variations (1:2, 1:3, and 1:4). Parameters measured included peeling efficiency, time consumption, and energy use. Results show that the 1:3 gear ratio provided optimal performance with 92% peeling efficiency and reduced processing time by 35% compared to manual methods. The design demonstrates that mechanical gear systems can effectively enhance small-scale coffee processing, supporting appropriate technology for rural communities.
2026-09-14T00:00:00+00:00 Hak Cipta (c) 2026 Jurnal Teknik Mesin
